Check out this outstanding post on the Young Philly Politics blog: Philly Mag and the Vallas CEO myth.
The post references a month-old Philly Magazine article, which, if you're interested, is here. There's nothing in it that anyone in Chicago hasn't read before.
Alexander, Just noticed that bts posted this. Who is bts and can anyone post? I always just though you were the only poster.

For both Philadelphia Magazine and Vallas integrity has never been their strong suit. Philadelphia Magazine is known for losing an editor when they tried to fudge the voting results for their Best of Philly issue. One of their heavy advertisers didn't place first and changes were made. Do you really think they are going to do a piece on Vallas that would take him to task. Just the bit about Budkowitz, our city controller, asking for Vallas to turn over the financial books should give you a clue as to how "in depth" this puff piece went.

bts is me, Brett Schaeffer. I'm a former education reporter. I've written about education for several different Chicago publications, including Catalyst, the Chicago Journal and Chicago Parent Magazine. I've also written for national education publications, such as Teacher Magazine and School Administrator Magazine.
I moved to Philadelphia (my hometown) in 2004 and began writing posts for Alexander on the Vallas era in Philly.
Though that era has ended, I will continue to write occasional posts on what's happening in Philadelphia. I am currently on the board of the Public School Notebook, a quarterly newspaper covering Philadelphia's public schools.
