"The University of Illinois has been pushing for months to create a new campus dramatically different from the existing ones at Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield, opens this article from Inside Higher Ed (Defeat for For-Profit Model)."The new campus would be entirely online, and staffed almost entirely by adjuncts who would not report to regular academic departments. The new entity — the University of Illinois Global Campus — would also be a private, for-profit business and would focus on high-demand fields."
The Inside Higher Ed article is full or inaccuracies. The Global Campus plan has always emphasized tenure-system faculty involvement in the design and delivery of its academic programs. The Global Campus plan is not going to be totally revamped; rather it will be revised based on input from the senates. The Master Teacher model is an option that can be used in Global Campus programs.
It is frustrating to read Jaschick's constant negative spin in his articles about the Global Campus. I agree with many posted comments that the Global Campus Initiative has an opportunity to do some very good things.
