"A music teacher at one of the city's most elite elementary schools faces discipline for reportedly telling a 6th grader that "he needs to learn his place as a black boy," Chicago school officials confirmed Wednesday....The school did not fire the teacher, who is still on probation, but the legal department did order the school to assign an adult to observe Cupsa when the 6th grader was taking his weekly music lesson with his class." Link: Teacher awaits fate for remark | Chicago Tribune.
So, the CPS has to go all the way to Romania to find a music teacher who'll work in the city schools? Wow. Nice indictment on the working environment, even if she was already in Chicago.

I went to this school and was actually friends with the kid she supposedly said this to. and i also am very good friends with one of the other kids who was in the room at the same time. he said the ms. cupsa said "bad boy" but could be easily mistaken because of her accent. she had a very thick accent so you couldn't really tell. i personally didn't think she was a good teacher, but she did deal with a lot of racism. in class kids would make fun of her and throw racial slurs at her almost every week.

I go to this school as a 5th grader , and she does endure many rumors about her in class. She's strict, and she gets angered easily, but shes an ok teacher if you get to know her.

Ms. Cupsa is a personal friend of mine, and also my vocal instructor. I have known her for 4 years, and am apalled at this false accusation. Never have I ever heard her utter a racist remark. I think people need to reconsider these allegations as they are false, and compromise her professionalism. It is easy to mistake her accent as something else. Character wise, Ms. Cupsa is a respectful, dedicated professional. I can personally attest, that she is an ethical person, in both her professional and personal life. And these allegations are at best an insult.

Without any prejudieces I would like to say that Ms.Cupsa is a dedicated Proffesional in The Academics in her country She workde very hard to get where she is. And Missunderstandings are made all the times. If someone does not live in another person's world, He or She does not undrstands that person. Therefore one does not have the right to judge that person. I have lived in bot countries as a student and I humbly can say that I know the difference. I have study from first to seven grade in Communist Romania and Here in United Satates. The fact that Education is DIFFERENT It makes no DIFFEREENCE how it is thought. There is a chinesse proverb "When the student is READY the teacher will come"! Because of missunderstandings there are many many Self Inflicted problems that are totally unnecessary. For lack of knowleddge People don't succeed drop out of HS, Colledge. Have to accept low paying jobs (if they can get them) in today's fast paced technologycal world. I have trumendous Respect For All The Teachers in The Entire World regardless of the style or methods. The Teachers are The Unsong heroes and are under paid. If all the boys and Girls would pay attention to their teachers and just listen, and study hard, they would be eternally grateful for having a GREAT TEACHER. There are so many children that have no teachers no books no schools in other parts of the world. Those people grow up just like the wheeds wasting their lives in poverty. What would any of you do if everything you have woud be taken awayfrom you? How would you support your family? What future would you have. While you complsain millions Of children around the world starv to death. If you don't get an Education You cannot make mutch difference. REMEMBER THIS IN NOTHING ELSE: THANK GOD FOR WHATEVER TEACHER YOU HAVE AND GER YOUR REAR IN THE GEAR AND CHEW THE BOOKS RESPECTFULLY. So long.
