Forget Hyde Park -- It's All About UIC

Check out this press release from the UIC which points out that former CPSers Shanahan and Gartzman, among others, played a big role in the test score increases:

"University of Illinois at Chicago education experts, working closely with Chicago Public Schools personnel, played a large role in the historic gains in mathematics, science and reading scores on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test for CPS students announced today by Mayor Richard M. Daley." (UIC News Release)

The release is especially interesting since Shanahan and Gartzman both left CPS prematurely, and since it raises questions about math/science vs. literacy increases.

UIC Gets National Teacher Ed Award

Some of the good folks at UIC's ed school are probably off in San Diego getting an award from the AACTE (ed school association) for a literacy PD effort called Partnership READ, according to this press release.  Sounds like an ARDDP effort (see explanation here.) Congrats to all involved.
